The "goober" VIA thin client
Sometimes I overthink the naming of these machines a bit. This one I bought because I was intrigued by its x86 CPU that's neither Intel, nor AMD; it's a VIA Eden X2. Since VIA seems to have used biblical terms for its names, I decided to choose a species that was cultivated in the Fertile Crescent, where the biblical Garden of Eden is thought to be located. I decided on Vicia.
First photo: The machine opened up, revealing a non-standard, thin form-factor Mini-ITX motherboard and an even less standad internal PSU that uses a Berg-connector to deliver power to the board. Second photo: Full stack! From top to bottom: Echinus, Discoplastis, Vicia. Fourth photo: the VIA Eden X2 processor (bottom) and VIA VX900 chipset (top). Fourth photo: most of the components were glued in place in the factory with a hot glue gun. Fifth photo: Taking the board out of its case reveals a hidden DC power jack so it can be powered from an external power brick! Sixth photo: its namesake vetch.
